New First Saturday Sampler Block of the Month Starting in February!

Finished Quilt Size 88-3/8" x 105-1/2

FIRST SATURDAY SAMPLER IS BACK! Make our beautiful bed-sized "Amish with a Twist" quilt for only $20. You'll get six lessons and all the fabric for the blocks for a gorgeous bed-sized quilt for just $20! Starting the first Saturday in February (Feb.4.) at 9:00am (before the shop opens to regular customers) and continuing through June. At each of the six sessions you will get a FREE class filled with lots of tips and techniques for cutting and piecing the block for that month, plus you will get the pattern AND THE FABRIC to do the block FREE. There will also be five exclusive BONUS projects. Do the block during the month, bring it back finished to the next first Saturday session each month and the next kit and pattern will be FREE. If you miss a month, or don't get your block done, you will have to pay $10.00 to get the missed kit and resume--no exceptions. So, if you keep up you can do all the blocks for a large beautiful quilt and six classes for only $20. This is a great way to learn tips for accurate piecing and sewing the blocks and would be something even a beginning quilter could do learning and building skills each month, plus it's loads for fun! In the event of snow, we will move to the second Saturday. We found a quilt that is just beautiful--and only takes a six month commitment--so we are going to bring this very popular idea back. Sign up early--there will be a cut off on the amount of kits we can do.

Book of the Month Club starting in January!

This year we want to celebrate the love of quilting--and reading. After all, it's not often that a wonderful novel is centered around Annapolis and a quilt shop! And, especially when its author is our very own Loris Nebbia. There is a beautiful quilt made from the book whose chapters are all quilt block titles. You can choose to make the quilt--in your own fabrics, or from kits we will provide--or just enjoy all the rest the club has to offer. Making the quilt is optional.

Each month, Loris will demonstrate the best ways to make one of the blocks from the Soloman's Puzzle Sampler Quilt including lots of piecing tips to help us all. Club members are welcomed to discuss books read that month and give their recommendations. Readers can share books with other club members if they wish. We may even include a "recipe exchange" since there are so many good cooks found among quilters.

Also, Loris will demonstrate a new technique or skill in a different project each month. In January we'll start by learning new techniques for making adorable yo-yos and see some projects that use them. You never need to bring anything but a smile--all classes are demos so just relax and enjoy.

Cookies, coffee and snacks will be provided too.

We want this to be a fun-filled exchange of ideas where new friendships are formed and new skills and techniques are learned each month. Be the first to see what is new each month. Come and join the fun! Check out our list of books!

Sign up now at Cottonseed Glory. Come in or call us at 410-263-3897.

Twelve Sessions two hours each. $125.

Optional kits are $12.50 per month payable by the quarter.

Classes are: Second Mondays 10:00am. or 7:00pm. (Please note that in the month of JANUARY ONLY we will meet on the third Monday. All months after January will be second Monday.)

We have other days held should these fill, so if these dates don't work for you call and give us your name and as other classes are set up we will let you know.

We are very excited about this and hope you will come and enjoy. We would appreciate any ideas you may have that would add to the fun!

Pat and Loris

Local author Loris Nebbia has written a book set in Annapolis, with something for everyone; you'll be sure to recognize your favorite quilt store at the center of the action.

A bit more about the book:

Solomon's Puzzle

Two adults claim one living child

What if the child had been given to the liar?

Everyone in Annapolis knows "honest" Tom MacBride. An Academy grad who ran a soup kitchen for the poor and poor in spirit, he's a devoted husband, father of four, and the beloved basketball coach at CCS.

His sworn enemy, Colonel Max Hunter, wants him dead.

Max Hunter won custody of the infant Ben in a fight he shudders to remember. For nearly sixteen years, he's lived in fear of someone finding out the truth.

While Tom MacBride and his wife, quilt store owner Laurie, have consoled themselves over losing the child, Ben, by making their home in Annapolis a warm and generous one, Max has been traveling the world as a recruiter for the USMC all the while using desperate means to keep the truth about his son's identity a secret.

When Ben enrolls at CCS, the lies start to unravel. Why does Tom welcome Ben, yet forbid him to date his daughter? Is Tom MacBride what he seems, or did he do something terrible enough to arouse Max Hunter's violent fury?

Set in modern day Annapolis, Laurie's quilt store is the heart of the community portrayed in the book. Each chapter title is taken from a quilt block name.

Awards: The Maryland Writer's Association awarded Solomon's Puzzle their top prize for short fiction in 2010.

Comments from readers:

"...Because I'm an Annapolis native and Solomon's Puzzle is so full of sensory detail, the book reminded me of so many moments living there, the boats, the color of the water, the chapel, the feel of the air in the summer. I could actually find myself dreaming of driving my old car along those uneven brick streets again." J. David green consultant

"...I never knew sewing could be so sexy...After reading this book I'll never look at flannel or magnetically guided seams the same way. But seriously, what makes Solomon's Puzzle such a page-turner is the incredible depth of the characters. Every character is three dimensional, and it is that detail that makes for such a tense, enthralling read." Sam C. USNA class of 2008, pilot, reader
