Cottonseed Glory Quilting Classes
Winter 2012

You may register at the shop in person, by telephone (410-263-3897), or by mail to 4 Annapolis St., Annapolis, Md. 21401. Please try to register early as classes will be canceled if a minimum number of students is not met. You may cancel a class registration no later than one week prior to the class and receive store credit. Cancellations within one week prior to start of class will receive no refunds. If a class is canceled by the shop, full refunds will be given. Please come to class ten minutes prior to start time and bring all your supplies needed. Bring a machine in good working order that you know how to operate. This makes it possible to cover all the class content thoroughly. For day classes, you can bring your lunch or go to one of the good restaurants on our street. Time will be allowed for lunch.

January

Dimensional Appliqué By Hand
Learn a variety of techniques while creating a small wallhanging or pillow top by hand. You'll learn ruched roses, folded buds and more with Rhoda Campbell. Many of these can also be added to purses and clothing. Tuesday 1/24 & 2/7. 10:30 -12:30. $45.
Classic Texas Lone Star Quilt
Learn an easy strip pieced way to make this classic beauty with Pam Harrell. All the diamonds radiating out from the center will be perfect, yet you never cut a diamond! Thursdays, Jan. 26 and Feb.2. 10:30-12:30. $45.
Funky Log Cabin Quilt with Linda Rosenstein
Join guest teacher and Philadelphia quilt artist Linda Rosenstein as you makes this wonderful quilt for the "ruler challenged." Practice the log cabin method of construction without worrying about precise cutting and perfect 1/4th-inch seams! The Funky Log Cabin works well with scraps or with any selected color scheme. Linda's sample is all done in a variety of colorful polka dots and we love it! BEGINNER FRIENDLY.  Tuesday 1/31. 10:30-3:30. $45.
  
Beginning Machine Quilting
Learn the basics of machine quilting as you progress from a "sampler" of skills and techniques in the first class and move on to a bigger all-quilted piece in the second class. You will learn and gain confidence in free-motion quilting, following a marked design, creating designs, stippling, the use of your walking foot, handling large quilts and so much more--all with pucker-free backs! If you have a stack of quilt tops waiting to be finished, this is for you. Designed for BEGINNERS, but full of tips for those who have done some quilting, but want to learn more. (Includes full-sized pattern.) Pat Steiner. Sign up for either day or evening classes. Offered either day or evening. Starstruck
The wonderful, slender, spikey points in these stars seem to be traditionally foundation or paper pieced--but they are NOT. No special rulers needed, either. Learn the new technique that makes them easy as you make this spectacular quilt with Pat Brousil. Sat. 1/28. 10:30-3:30. $45.
  
Deep Clean Your BERNINA Machine
Learn how to treat your wonderful machine--no matter what model or how old--to a Spa Treatment. Sunday 1/29. 1:30. $10 to those who purchased from us or $20 for others.  (Other Bernina related classes are at the end of this schedule.)

February

Beginning Quilting
If you want to learn to make a quilt and see why we have so much fun--or have been teaching yourself and need some pointers--this is the class for you. You will make a great quilt that teaches rotary cutting, piecing of basic triangles and squares, adding lattice strips, borders and more--all in your choice of colors and in a size that fits your needs. Three Thursday sessions: Feb. 9, 16, & 23. 7:00 P.M. $60. Pat Brousil teaches.
  
Sunday Appliqué Club
Join Kelly Kout for a relaxed, creative time to work on your own appliqué project where she will answer questions and demonstrate solutions to help you finish your hand appliqué treasures. Kelly will also teach various kinds of ruching, reverse appliqué techniques and beveled edge accents that add interest and dimension to your design. Show and Tell will be fun, too. Three sessions. Sundays, 2/19, 3/18, & 4/15. 1:30-3:30. $50.
Whispers
Pam Harrell's new quilt, done in wonderful batiks, is one of the prettiest we've ever seen. Its calming blue and green batik colors make it looks like it should hang in an expensive salon or spa. The design is quite different allowing you to explore  new piecing techniques as you make it.  It would be just as gorgeous in any choice of fabrics. Come in and see it in person. Tails and Trails
Guest teacher, Dana Mason, showed this quilt in one of our HQ Club meetings and it was love at first sight.  The body of the quilt is a school of colorful fish and the border is made of snail's tail blocks. You'll learn to quick piece the fish using the fool-proof "Thangles" method and learn to make perfect snail's tails blocks using Dana's paper piecing techniques. What a great quilt to do as we dream of summer! Sat. 2/18. 10:30-5:00. $48. This is an original design, so the pattern is only available in the class.
Landscape Quilting with Peggy Madden
Peggy Madden has developed an original and unique technique that makes landscape quilting do-able and even easy! Her Harbor Town sample with its tiny village and sailboat dock is perfect for our area. It is all done by hand--but with her method the edges are all easily pre-turned for you. Learn perspective, unique ways to master narrow, slender shapes and so very much more. One day long session followed by two 2-hour sessions. Wed. 2/15. 10:30-3:30,  2/22 & 2/29. 10:30-12:30. $75.
Lollipop Bag
A fun little bag that sits up on a hidden contrast bottom, making it easy to see what's inside. Learn how to embellish your purse with three-dimensional fabric rosettes, flowers, or buttons. This will make a wonderful spring purse!  Easy enough to take home finished! Tues. 2/14. 10:30-3:30. $45. Rhoda Campbell.
Party on the Block
We turn the classroom into a "party" for this class with Sue Luddy!  The quilt is a great one to learn so many new tricks to add to your piecing repertoire. Come see the sample and enjoy party snacks as you spend a chilly day inside having a "party" and making a great quilt. Thurs. 2/9. 10:30-3:30. $45.

Give and Take Appliqué Rectangle Beauty
"Waste not, want not"--use the cut aways from one block to create another as you make the intriguing, asymmetrical blocks in this quilt. The oval blocks offer many different placement options and can be further embellished with optional decorative stitches on your machine. No more left-overs! Magic Trip Around the World
Join Norma Campbell as you make this wonderful, colorful quilt that seems to tediously be made of thousands of tiny squares. AND--with this ingenious strip piecing technique, you never cut a single square!  This quilt is just plain fun and beautiful, too. It's the one I made as a wedding gift for my oldest daughter. Down from the Attic
Our sample looks like your great grandmother might have made it. It's done in wonderful reproduction fabrics, but could be done in any other fabric choices. The unusual blocks are scrap friendly or you can just pick a handful of fat quarters. The BQ Quilt with Linda Rosenstein
Join Linda as you make this quilt. It is a great choice for the quilter who has some confidence in her cutting and piecing skills. The pattern is deceptively simple, but it can develop into a very dramatic and impressive quilt. The construction requires the quilter to exercise her own design skills and she ends up with a truly individualized finished product. It is excellent for showcasing unusual or large prints. Beginning Sewing: Garment Construction
Make these cute pajama bottoms or Capri pants with Loris Nebbia. You'll learn how to read and use a garment pattern, construct seams, create a waist, learn hemming, and learn to use your sewing machine. Tues & Thurs. 3/13 & 3/15. (Two sessions.) 7:00. $45.

Classic Seven Sisters Quilt with No Inset Seams
This was once one of those block designs that only the most skilled quilters would attempt.  Now its mystery has been solved. Join Carolyn Jamieson as she teaches you the new and easy way, designed by Marti Michell that makes this wonderful, traditional favorite one you can do. It will be lovely if you stick to reproduction fabrics or choose to go with modern choices. Sat. 3/31. 10:30-3:30. $45.
Scintillating Circles
Join Pat Steiner and learn her original technique for making fast and easy circles whose edges are already magically turned under and ready to appliqué by hand or machine. In class you will learn how she does them by machine.  Use wonderful Oriental fabrics, gorgeous florals, or novelty prints. It's so easy; you will finish lots of blocks right in class. Beginners' One Day Quilt
Make this easy but very attractive quilt with Delight Yokanovich while you learn basic rotary cutting and easy machine piecing. Choose a group of 1/4th yard fabrics that you love and turn them into a quilt in your choice of sizes. (Many of the samples hanging in the shop are made from this same pattern.) English Paper Piecing with Kelly Kout
Learn this classic method for hand piecing using the traditional hexagon or diamond shapes to create a Grandmother's Flower Garden or Star design. Great for BEGINNERS--precut papers give you perfect piecing results. Come see the new samples. Thurs. 3/8. 10:30-3:30. $45.

Here is a beautiful piece to help you master the wonderful technique of foundation or paper piecing--it makes the impossible, do-able! All your slender points will be perfect! If you have never learned it, have read through the directions and still can't figure it out, come learn how easy it really is as you make this elegant small quilt in this class with Pat Brousil. A refund for STORE CREDIT ONLY is provided if you cancel no later than one week before class begins; however, no credit or transfers to other classes can be allowed after this time. BERNINA Guide Class - All Models

Learn to master all the main functions of your machine including cleaning and maintenance. This class is required for your warranty. Wed. Sept. 7. 6:30. FREE to our purchasers. Call for availability and fees if you purchased elsewhere. Bring your machine, all accessories, guide book, good thread, scissors, and note paper.

All artista models (models 580, 630, 640, and 730)

Embroidery Guide Class

Tues. 1/24. 6:30. Bring your machine, module, medium hoop, one or two spools or embroidery thread, and scissors. We will provide fabric and stabilizer. (If you have a 440 or 430 machine, have software pre-loaded and bring it in on your laptop—if you need help, call us.)

Deep Clean Your BERNINA Machine - Any Model

Handi-Quilter Clubs

Handi Quilter clubs are FREE to our purchasers and a way to continue to learn more about your machine. There is a lesson each time and loads of shared hints, tips, and information. You are urged to bring Show & Tell, finished or unfinished and share what you learned, techniques you used, tips, or any problems or questions you have. (New owners--you'll learn that we bring anything--the good and not so good so that we all can learn from each other…we are not judgmental! ) FEE for others who did not purchase here is $120 for this three class session.

Mastering the Ins and Outs of Edge to Edge Quilting PLUS TROUBLE SHOOTING TIPS

Edge to edge either using free-motion, pantographs, or the groovy boards, while quite easy, can have some pitfalls. We cover ways to avoid them, how to line up your design, how to advance your design and more. Sunday, January 15. 1:30

Using Your Laser Front to Back

Vera Means loves and has mastered the use of the sometimes neglected laser that came with your machine. She will show you how to do block designs from the front of your machine and how to handle, set up, and use pantographs from the back of your machine.
